Ch. 4 book quotes

"Frederick Carlton argued that there were only three possible ways to occupy children in the cities:1) working in factories, 2) getting into trouble in the streets, and 3) learning in schools." (pg. 54)
I completely agree with this quote. I feel that school is a huge reason for preventing kids from getting into trouble or being put in a dangerous environment. That is why schools provide extra-curricular activities to provide even more opportunities to prevent students from getting into trouble.

"There was a further goal to provide the entire population with the skills and knowledge needed to be productive workers, so that the nation as a whole would prosper." (pg. 60)
I like  this quote because not only did it pertain to back then, but it also applies now. We provide children with education to allow them to succeed in the future.

"In particular, there is more and more demand for people to be thinkers and lifelong learners, since technology is rapidly replacing people in the routine jobs of the society." (pg. 64)
This quote is very true. Jobs are constantly being replaced by technology because it is faster and more cost effective. Therefore, we need to provide our workplace with creative thinking that computers and other technology won't be able to provide.
